May/June 2008
Our hearts are full now that the school year is coming to a
close. It is sad to think that Holy Rosary School will not be opening
its doors come September. I have spent my entire adult life within
these walls, first as a teacher, and then as principal.
I will now pour all of my energies and devote the rest of my career
to a Catholic school across the Hudson River. I am excited and happy to
be working in a school community like Holy Rosary. Some of the parents
and teachers have already met me and have greeted me with open arms. I
pray every day that everyone on our faculty and staff will also be
fortunate to find employment in working environments that will be well
suited for them. As you know, we have very gifted people here at Holy
Rosary School, and they deserve the opportunity to be able to utilize
their talents to the fullest.
Our Holy Rosary families have sacrificed so much, and have worked so
hard to enhance the education at Holy Rosary by raising funds to
implement enrichment programs. I pray that all of them will place their
children in schools that will continue the great work that we have
begun. It will not be easy for the children in the beginning, but soon
after they relocate to other schools, they will make new friends and
life will go on. And yet I know in my heart of hearts that the children
and their parents will never forget us, because Holy Rosary School was
truly special. To quote one of our fifth graders who was alluding to
the new school that he will be entering in the fall, “Nobody has what we
have, Mrs. Slattery”. From the mouths of babes….
